Honda has become the first manufacturer to reach 500 million motorcycles produced globally, with the milestone unit — an Activa — rolling off the line in India at HMSI Plant 4 in Gujarat in 2025.
The achievement comes 76 years after Honda began motorcycle production with the Dream D-Type in 1949. It follows previous production milestones marked by the Super Cub (100 millionth unit) and the Gold Wing (300 millionth), reinforcing Honda’s legacy as the world’s leading motorcycle brand.
“For Honda, motorcycle business is our ‘founder’s business’, and it will continue to be the company’s core business,” Toshihiro Mibe, director, president and representative executive officer, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., said. “I would like to thank our customers and all stakeholders who were involved in achieving this milestone, from development to production, sales, and service.”
Honda now manufactures motorcycles in 23 countries through 37 production entities and operates a dealer network of over 30,000 outlets. Its product line-up ranges from entry-level commuters to large-capacity adventure and electric models, with 2024 marked as the company’s first year of global EV expansion.
